This has been an interesting month. The move from the warmth of summer to the crispness of autumn has been a fallow time for me. I have planted the seeds of my new business, Life’s a Daring Adventure. I’ve carried it in my heart and let its sprouts take hold.

This weekend some seedlings appeared. I felt the contractions of growth.

Norine, my sister from Colorado, was in town. Her visits, though work related for her, are times of retreat for me. We love being together. Our Saturday was filled with cosmic inspiration, lunch with a friend, and an Artist’s Way visit to Barnes and Noble. Heading to the magazine section, we each chose a half dozen titles. Cups of iced coffee and tea, we headed to the tables that allow for browsing and sipping.

For two hours we just flipped pages. My favorite new magazine is one from Holland, called Flow. Beautiful paper, gorgeous type, and gentle words. Norine enjoyed the Stampington & Company titles, especially Where Women Create Business. Both of us are creating businesses and Saturday we were creating them together.

We returned home and spent the evening just watching old Castle reruns in our jammies. We gorged ourselves on chicken egg foo young and sesame chicken and read fortunes back and forth.

Sunday, was a drippy, cold day here. Temp upon waking was only 48 degrees. Around 2pm, Norine decided her biggest job was to nap, and off she went.

At this point, my head started bursting with all that had been percolating during the month and weekend. Words like flow, heart, vibrations, retreats all came crashing in.

I have always spoken of “Life’s a Daring Adventure” in my one-minute elevator speech as —

“I believe every woman at midlife remembers that there is one more dream in her heart. Something that’s not for her parents, her partner or society, for her. I am a midwife for midlife, allowing that dream to have life.”

I’ve known that Life’s a Daring Adventure felt right for my company name. But, I haven’t known what to do. What is the way I want to share with women this adventure? Taking a piece of printing paper, I wrote the words HEART DREAMS. The two words felt so right.

And then it happened.

Words poured out of me. Ways to do retreats, and talks and blogs, and newsletters.

I knew.

When Nor awoke I told her and she had goose bumps. We googled and found that HeartDreams.com is a site for papillons. She suggested THE HEART DREAMS. The noun had become a verb. The phrase of action. Of letting the heart dream and create and share.

So The Heart Dreams has begun it’s new life. I am a new mother looking sweetly upon the new life in her hands. I have been a midwife to midlife for myself and created a new and wonderful child.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be working on the book and the course and inviting others to allow me to share all The Heart Dreams in conferences, meetings, churches and homes.

Love,

Mary Helen
